Q: trying to find obd2 dtc P01066 for Honda CR-V are there discussion groups online that do that?
I’m working to get the Check Engine Light off, the mechanic said the code was P01066 & P01067.
It’s A 2002 Honda CR-V LX and seems to be running ok. I’m a retired mechanic, but nobody wants to point me towards a solution. One Broke Mother

A: PO106 and PO107 is referring to the map sensor.Possible vacuum hose leak at sensor or poor electrical connection.

Q: Would you know where I could get some sort of glossary for the panel board of a 1997 coupe honda civic ex ?
One of the items in my panel board are currently lit and it says ‘check’. I looked into my manual and didn’t find any discussion on this. I’d like to have a copy of what each symbol or item lit on for me to know what is wrong with my car. Thanks much!

A: Must be check engine light and for this you need a code reader to see what your car is telling you, which may indicate the problem or problem circuit. You need to take to a mechanic to get a through check.

Q: Honda Odyssey 2000 transmission problem?
Hi there!

One year ago, when my Odyssey was still under the extended warranty for its transmission, the check engine light turned on. The Honda dealer daignosed code P1736 – “3rd clutch pressure switch stuck open”. The dealer cleared the code, test drove the van and determined that everything was fine. Now, one year later, with my car out of the transmission warraty extension, the dealer diagnosed code PO740 – “torque converter clutch system failure” and I was told I need to replace the entire transmission – cost $2,900. I called American Honda and after some discussion they worked out a deal with the dealer to cover 40% of the cost of repair. I believe Honda should cover 100% of the cost of replacement given that the transmission problem first appeared last year under the warranty.
Are the 2 issues with the transmission I had related? Can I make a case that the transmission was going bad already last year? Thanks.

A: Dealer should pay 100% because it is a missdiag or comeback because of the tech. I work for Honda and it is a well known problem that Odyssey’s have bad transmissions. We have several TSB’s and tech bulletins out on that year van. I would take it to court and get them to cover it all. Just follow your gut and prove that it was going bad before you tired to have it fixed and they screwed up. There is a oiling problem with the 3rd gear and if not fixed inder the tsb it can burn up the synchro and then in turn if left unfixed it can burn the rest of tranny up.

Q: Honda Civic and Accord: which has better acceleration? and a another general question.?
After much discussion with myself, i realize i will probably get one of these two cars as my first, but i don’t know which one to get. I know that the Civic gets more mpg because it has a smaller engine, but will it accelerate as much as an Accord?

Also, which is better over all?

A: If you’re going stock for stock
V6 Accord and Civic SI

I’ll get the Civic, it’s quicker, more aftermarket, and sportier, has way more potential to be a really fast car

The accord is more of a family car…A really nice family car

Q: do you think an all white sportbike (1999 honda cbr f4) including white rims would look cool?
http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.pnwfx.net/photos/392864905_H7L9g-XL.jpg&imgrefurl=http://pnwriders.com/general-discussion/87268-since-1987-honda-600-did-you-like-best-over-years.html&usg=__USCKdUHV5lNjvU6E_b3b5RCNMd4=&h=610&w=1024&sz=127&hl=en&start=1&tbnid=-4n3-NQFR0aeMM:&tbnh=89&tbnw=150&prev=/images%3Fq%3D1999%2Bhonda%2Bcbr%2Bf4%2Bwhite%26gbv%3D2%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG

A: It would look cool, but as I know with my bike, white rims are real…fun…to keep clean.

Just expect to be on your butt in your garage once a week with the degreaser cleaning out nooks of grease on the things.

Q: Do my Honda have a real transmission problem or I am simply being fooled for money?
I have a 2001 Honda civic with 60,000 miles. Car stopped accelerating on a local road after travelling in highway. Even if I pressed the gas pedal the car would not move and the check engine lights came on. I towed the car to a local mechanic and he immediately mentioned that transmission has to be changed and cost would be $2300. There was a nearby Honda dealer and tried to get his feedback. He did the diagnostics and told that I needed a new transmission and cost would be $3750. He said it would take 2 weeks time and would give a loaner car. After several talks he came to 3100. I said I cannot afford it and took the vehicle back. While giving the invoice to me the following is written in the invoice job report.

P0740/P0730 – Torque converter clutch malfunction. Transmission replaced needed for the proper repair $3195 Installed remanufactured transmission assembly Parts/Labor warranty 36/36000 Miles

(dont know why he had “replaced”, “installed”)

I read this statement only after I reached my office. Now I am confused if I really need a transmission replacement or it is only a torque converter clutch problem. I saw several discussion forums on the internet that had suggested “flushing” or changing only few parts of the transmission to get it right. Also when I took the car at the dealer place the car was not moving. When I tried to take it back at least it was moving and check engine was not on. Now I have left the car at Amoco transmission to check for issues in the transmission.

What would be your inputs on my car problem? And what do I need to ask Amoco if they also come back and tell that I need a transmission replacement.
Now the Honda guy (Joyce Honda Denvile, NJ) called me and said he could do the transmission for $2300 Only if I add break pedal replacement. So with tramission and break pedal it is $3000. By this time I had already left the car at Amoco.

A: There are several answers within your question.

the first is that most of the problems with honda transmissions in those years had to do with the V-6 cars–Accord, Odyssey and Prelude that used an entirely different transmission. So first of all, the Civic trans does not share those problems.

the code for your car, P0740 indicates a torque converter malfunction. Unfortunatly, the usual cause of that is that the internal passage for the hydraulic fluid to the torque converter is blocked by debris that came from wear on the internal parts of the transmission. That’s why you’re getting opinions that the problem is terminal.

the flushing can be effective at removing the blockage and allowing the converter to once again engage. that will nof fix the internal damage if in fact the passage is clogged with debris.

there are other possible reasons for the torque converter not working including electrical reasons but that would not result in a car that loses power.

the check engine light is not on because they cleared the code when they checked for it. it takes two consecutive rides when the onboard diagnostics are run and the problem is found to exist to turn the light on. You have obviously only made one trip away from the dealer. the tests are only run under specific circumstances, so many times it can take as long as a week for the light to come back on.

If it were my car i would get the transmisssion fluid drained and run through a paint sieve to see if there is metal in the fluid. if there is, then chances are the trans will need to be replaced.

I would not chance rebuilding it at a transmission shop. I would get a rebulit from a rebuilder who does them in clean rooms. I’ve seen too many shops try to rebuild them and owners return multiple times before they get it right.

Hope that helps

Q: Can’t decide between Mazda 6 and Honda accord (used cars & both V6)?
Hi,

My dad and I have been shopping around for a used car and well, with much discussion and debates, we have narrowed it down to two cars: the 2004 Mazda 6 GS (V6) with 140km and the 2002 Honda Accord (V6) with 145km.

My dad absolutely loves the Honda Accord because he says its reliable and the built is good. It’s a long lasting car… but it looks so old, I just don’t like it! I love the styling of the Mazda 6, but the problem with that car is that my dad has never driven a Mazda in his life. I don’t think anyone in my family has.
I just don’t know which one to pick. I’ve heard Honda transmissions are a huge problem in the accords with this late model.
Any input would be great! Thanks!

A: Neither, you are comparing unreliable junque to unreliable junque so flip a coin. They are both going to make you learn where every mechanic in town lives and unless you want to be branded as BORING don’t get either since they are both famous for being BORING cars.
Besides, Japanese and Korean quality has been going down hill faster than a rocket powered sled on a greased rail in recent years.
Get American or European for quality and safety, Japanese and Korean cars are pretty crappy for the most part.

Signed, The Raven.

Q: 2011 Chevrolet Equinox VS Honda CR-V VS Toyota RAV4?
Please help me to select from the above 3 vehicle. From discussion with other people, I have the following opinions. They may be wrong.
1. Equinox is stylish interior and exterior, it has lot of features and technologies, and grate gas millage. I have heard that it has less re-sell value and has high maintenance.
2. CR-V does not have the comfort ride like Equinox or interior, its noise. But has very less maintenance and grate re-sell value. It looks better then RAV4. Has more ground clearance.
3. RAV4 has smart key entry, option for the 3rd row(I dont need it), high re-sell value low maintenance but does not look that good.
Also, I found it hard to bargain with Honda dealers as compared to Hyundai. I have not tried with Toyota and Chevrolet dealers.

Which SUV should I buy ?

A: Probably the CR-V. The Chevy is not that reliable. The Toyota is nice, but I don’t like the 2011 one. The CR-V is a Honda, meaning very good resale value and low maintenance. You may just have to live with the uncomfortable ride.
Unless you open up to more options :) Like the Ford Edge. Very good reliability, low maintenance, and it looks good.

Q: How much horsepower does an unmodified 2008 Honda VTX1300 have?
I have a 2008 Honda VTX1300R. I know the displacement is 80.06 cubic inches and that it is actually 1312 cc. I’m pretty sure I remember reading somewhere that it had 85 hp, but now I can’t find it anywhere. I was having a discussion with a friend of mine last night who has a 2007 Harley-Davidson Dyna Glide. He has had a bunch of work done to his bike and actually just had it dyna tuned and the computer read it as having an output of 85 hp. He’s pretty sure that my bike does not have 85 hp. I’d like to prove him wrong. I weigh 260 Lbs and my bike has no problem whatsoever hauling my big frame around. In fifth gear going up a hill at 120kms/hr I crank on the throttle and boost her up to 150kms with plenty more power waiting to respond.

A: Honda VTX 1300 S features a motor engineered as a 1312 cc, liquid cooled, 52° v-twin. The motor has a bore and stroke of 89.5 mm x 104.3 mm, and has a compression ratio of 9.2:1. The engine cranks out a total of 74 horsepower.

Q: When will the U.S.A. see the Honda concept motorcycle the DN-01?
I have read on many european sites that the new automatic CVT bike will go into production for Europe sometime in 2008 and Japan late this year or early 2008. But no discussions on anything for the US.
the following is a web site where you can see this awesome bike

A: Don’t hold your breath!

*/End of Line.

Q: When you see a hybrid car, what are your thoughts/opinions of the driver?
I hate to generalize, but for the sake of this discussion, let’s hear people’s generalizations…I am interested in how people view those who drive hybrids (e.g. Honda Civic Hybrid, Toyota Prius).

How would you “stereotype” the average Hybrid driver?

A: A cool person who cares about the environment. A smart consumer willing to try a new product and lead others to a trend.

Q: how much DC Current would be required to kill ?
A discussion arose concerning battery operated cars (Honda) having a DC battery capable of 500+ volts DC and l said l would not think that much DC current would kill but render a severe burn.

A: Actually, depending on condtions and variables, just 17 volts is enough to kill a normal healthy man.

The link below goes into enough detail to make your head spin, but it does answer your question. Not sure it fully covers the effect of the position of your arms mind. If your arms are both outstretched, crucifixation wise, then I believe an even smaller voltage would do it because it worths the current to arc from one hand to the other, giving your heart a really heavy jolt on the way through. Line of fire thing!

edit:
Yes, I’ve answered it in voltage relative to the question. I am aware of Ohms law and current vs resistance etc.

Q: How would Danica do in an F1 test?
I have heard she is interested in doing a test. Honda has said it would open to the idea but no discussions yet. How would she do?
The interest from Honda is simple. They manufacture the motors for the IRL!

A: She had a shot at a test a few years ago and her time was slower than almost every single GP2 racer. so i wouldnt even bother. she can keep losing races in indy.

Q: Which one to choose? Corolla Altis or Honda Civic?
I have read many reviews and discussions but not yet able to decide. I want a car which is sporty and looks really cool, but it should have good ground clearance as roads in my city are very bad.

A: I haven’t personally seen the Altis, but most newer Toyota and Honda cars are reliable, get good mileage, and well-built as far as I can tell at my job. The Honda will likely have more aftermarket parts to choose from if you’re into that. I, personally, would go with the Honda, but either one you pick will be a better choice than a lot of the junk out there.

Q: Fun discussion: Help me choose my first new car!!!?
I’m looking for practical new car: def 4 doors, either a sedan or wagon, I’m a car guy so I want something with a little pep of course. MPG is pretty important but I realize if i want a sporty car I might have to give that up. Nothing American. My budget is $25000-$35000 and I’m willing to go on the cheaper side and spend some money doing the modifications myself. Here are some of cars I’ve been throwing around:

Subaru WRX (I really like the STI but it might be outta my price range)
Mitsu Lancer Evo
Mitsu Eclipse
Honda Civic Si
Acura TSX
VW GTI
Pontiac GTO
Any other suggestions would be awesome! Thanks

A: PONTIAC G8 GT. $30k.

at least check it out.
