chevrolet questions

A: The 118K miles on the vehicle are of little concern, in my opinion.
My current GM car has 130+ on it, my last one had over 275K.

Best advise, if your not mechanical, is take it to a local GM dealer or an independent shop you trust, pay them the 75 or so dollars they want and have a pre purchase inspection done. They will check the brakes, the over all condition of all the fluids, the suspension and so forth. Well worth the money for the information. With a written list of needs and an estimate for the work that needs to be done you can negotiate the price with the seller. If the seller is not willing to have this done, steer clear of the vehicle.
Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Q: Chevrolet Malibu Questions?
Can anyone answer these questions.
1.what is the drive train, all wheel, front wheel, or rear wheel.
2.does it have dual air conditioner/heat, for passenger and driver.
3. can your ipod/iphone work in the car.
4. what do the + and – mean on the stearing wheel, what are they for
btw, its the 2009 model

A: 1. All Malibu’s are front wheel drive.

2. The higher end models (2LT & LTZ) have dual zone a/c.

3. It says on the web site that all cars made after 3/9/09 have a USB port & single CD. It says nothing about it being able to control an iPod. It may, but there was info in it. All vehicles prior to 3/9/09 have either a single CD or 6 CD changer. And then to get the USB port you have to get into the 2LT or LTZ trim that has the premium 8 speaker stereo systems. The 2LT & LTZ trims have blue tooth.

4. The + & – signs are for the tap shift on both the 2LT & LTZ trims. It allows you to select when to shift the transmission. Basically turn your car into a little sports car for your amusement. It’s ok with the 4 cyl, but you really need the V6 to make it perform the way it was designed to. Also you may see the + & – on the volume control for the stereo on the steering wheel.

I have really studied the Malibu in great detail. I really want an LTZ, white, ebony/brick leather, & V6. But I don’t have the finances in place for it. I would for sure order one if you really want that USB port. Dealers have a surplus of those cars around. Don’t let them sweet talk you into a car that’s been on the lot for the last 10 months. Order one!

Q: questions about Chevrolet Cavalier?
what all can i do to make my 2003 red Chevrolet Cavalier look cool and alot faster..its 2 door and a 5 speed..any ideas? and give me a price range

A: Lowering will give you a big plus in looks and handling. I’d recommend Eibach Pro springs and KYB AGX shocks and struts. You can pick up the springs online for about $250 (Summit Racing) and the shocks and struts will be about $400 (Ebay). I purchased the mounts from KYB and new insulators from the dealer (another $100 maybe) and built the entire suspension while sitting on the couch and did a wheel-by-wheel swap.

As far as speed… look at your intake and exhaust. Getting a cold air intake ($250), exhaust headers ($200), hi-flow cat ($200) and a high flow muffler ($100) may find you another 15-20HP. To kick it up a notch you could get a nitrous bottle. At 40HP and light use, it may not rip your engine apart. At 60HP and frequent use, your car may not last very long. You can also find that at Summit Racing.

Q: 454 BIG BLOCK questions. RV, chevrolet, please help!!!?
Ok, I have a RV with a Chevy 454 in it. I wanna drop it into my 1967 Chevrolet C10. Is there any difference between a RV Chevy big block and a car Chevy big block? Thanks.

A: take the number,s off the block & go to your local chevrolet dealer/ ask a tech. or part,s man. depending on the year of the engine…it may be a tall block or be set up with modified head,s. a tall block will not interchange thing,s like intake manifold,s, standard exhaust system,s,etc…chance,s are it,s no different than the standard car block but better check to be sure. good luck!

- Can some one post an schematic of cars underneath showing the location of the oil-plug.
- Should I use PF457G (filter only) or PF458G (Filter, Cap, and Cap Seal) for oil filter. If the PF457G, then how should the filter be disassembled and then assembled with the new filter part?

Thank you.

Q: 2-1998 chevrolet blazer questions, 10 points to best answer?
1.)How do i remove my governor. Can i have it done professionally?
2.)Im short on cash, what are some fast, easy, and cheap ways to increase my horsepower, i already have a flowmaster model 40 on it so. . . . . .
i have a non stock tranny in it my 4th gear ratio is set to run to ~120mph. it wont blow i cant run it maxed long enough, no straights her in wv besides interstate.

A: You will need to use a hand-held programmer, or the similar to adjust the maximum speed. All are capable of running over 100mph (98 factory max speed setting).

The reason for the governor is the speed rating of the tires when it was sold. My truck (with 3.73 gears) turns right close to 2500-2600rpm when I hit the limit (no where near blowin).

As for increasing the power, the hand-held programmer can do it ($300-400 bucks) The Westers programmer costs the most (versus the Hypertec or similar) but has the best tune in my opinion. Do a cat-back exhaust (another $250-400)

Q: 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier Coupe questions?

Q: questions about Chevrolet c/k automatic hubs????? HELP!!!?
Can you convert a 90’s chevy c/k pick-up from auto hubs to manual locking hubs????? I love the 90’s era chevy c/k pick-ups but i hate the fact that they have automatic locking hubs because auto hubs are very unreliable, so is it possible to replace the auto hubs with manual locking hubs, if so how expensive is it to convert to manual locking hubs on a chevy pick-up

A: Warn hubs run about 150 here in canada. It sure saves gas.

Q: ‘05 Chevrolet Suburban Electrical Questions?
Never tried yahoo! answers before, but here goes…….(BTW, I noticed “Chevy Owner” is a GM cert. mech. and provides seemingly good advice.)

I have an ‘05 Suburban LT Autoride 5.3L with just about every bell and whistle one could imagine for options. My situation is that I like to tailgate and there does not seem to be an “accessory” position which powers just the “cab”. (With the truck off) If I want to run the DVD for the kids, or the sound system, I’m told by the Chevy Dealer that all the “modules” for the engine management system are powered too. They said I’m doing real good if it will go 45min. on the stock battery. I’ve had that load tested and my battery guy says I’m in good shape. Now I’ve noticed that there are 2 “fuse boxes” for the vehicle. The one under the hood appears to be for “chassis” functions and the one by the driver side door hinge is for “cab” functions. My questions is this…..Is there a kit (factory/aftermarket??) that adds a second battery and isolates the two fuseboxes. This would be similiar to a set-up found in a larger boat in that one battery could be used for starting, engine management, and vital functions (ABS, exterior lamps, etc.) and the other battery could be used for “cabin” functions (interior lights, sound, dvd, 12V accessory outlets, etc.). When the alternator is charging (engine running) the isolator could switch both batteries to be in parallel for charging, when not charging, it isolates them. Of course a manual overide would be smart to allow for emergency situations. I think it would be no biggie to make one, and I’ve found an aftermarket 2nd battery tray, but my truck is still under the extended warranty and I don’t want to void that part of it. I can’t see that anything would work any different “electrically” assuming both batteries had some charge. This would be especially useful when we overnite in the truck 5-6 times per year. More than a few times I’ve had to jump the truck if the battery goes down enough for the “run-down” protection to kick in (or drop out?). If I can do this, I would spring for Optimas. One starting, and one deep cycle. Did I just blow everyones brain???? Hope at least someone understands the question and can point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance,

- Mike in South Jersey (yeah, there’s a difference!)

A: sounds like a good idea but you’ll probably need a bigger alternator also dosent deisel engines have two batteries i dont know just thinking out loud or get a battery jumper maybe a cheap fix good luck

Q: I have a chevrolet truck transmission question?
I have a 96 chevrolet truck, half ton, full size rwd, with an automatic in it. it has lost reverse. I have access to a 95 transmission but the wiring harness is supposedly different. Is there any way to make the 95 work in the 96 truck such as a wiring adapter kit etc. If so any idea as to where to get such a thing. I know everything else will bolt up it is just the electronic issue. thanks for your time. chris

A: the newer trans has different computer to operate the shift you need a pro to work this out for you. the wires go in to the valve body. you may be able to use the old valve body. Go on line to ASK. type in transmission mods or, get in touch with a hot rod shop and ask about the conversion from year to year.

Q: 1983 Chevrolet Scottsdale Question?
I just wanted some input and had a few questions about an 1983 Scottsdale.

I just purchased it for 800 dollars from my uncle. It’s got a brand new frame because it was recently restored to a “Good” condition.

It has some rust around the fender wells, the tail gate, and the doors. Not much just enough to need some work, and repainting. Also It needs a new grill, and I would like to replace the Door Panels, and the Dash, because they are blue and I plan on refinishing the truck and I want them to match the exterior.

I was wondering if anyone had a good estimate on what fixing the rust spots, sanding, priming, repainting, fixing the grill, and doing some interior work woudl cost?

Also it has a 350 4 Barrel.

Any advice, comments, or suggestions would be great.

A: As and avid Chevy man myself, I owned an 83 Silverado, 86 K5 Blazer, 87 Silverado, I would go to this website:

http://www.lmctruck.com

There you can choose the year and style of your truck and they will give you the prices for the repair panels and pieces that your needing.
Unfortunetly, not many body shops want to handle rust anymore. I found that out when I tried to get my Blazer fixed I went to 5 body shops and they all said “Buy a New ONE” cuz it’ll be cheaper.
However, if you like to tinker around with them you can have the shops or a good friend who knows how to weld put in the panels for you. I had mine done for a case of beer. Then you can have someone do a paint job on it.
If you are not wanting a show truck but just something that looks nice from about 5 to 10 feet away you can paint it your self. It is actually quite easy to do.
But usually you can find someone to paint it for around $500 to a $1000 sometimes cheaper.
Hope this helps!
