Q: I want to start an automotive forum. Any suggestions where I can buy a pre-packaged forum template?
I’m planning on starting an automotive forum for our website AESwave.com. Can you give me any ideas or suggestions on templates or places that sell forum packages. Thanks.

A: There is no need to buy unless you’re looking at recouping that money through the forums or you really want to draw attention away from the main portion of the website.

There are dozens of free forums out there, here are a few of the most popular:

vBulletin: http://www.vbulletin.com/
Snitz2000: http://forum.snitz.com/
PHPBB: http://www.phpbb.com/

Q: Does anyone know of a good automotive forum?
I asked a question on here about my truck about a week ago, but no one responded. I figured I would look for an automotive forum to ask the question. Thanks!

A: Yahoo groups has discussion groups for almost every car or truck brand and model.

Q: What’s a good automotive forum to learn about cars inside out?
I’ve got a little bit of spare time on my hands, so I’d like to eventually know how to take apart a car and put it back together. I figure the best way is to read and ask questions. There’s a ton of forums out there but I was wondering if any of them are notably good.

A: the best way to learn is to take a car apart and put it back together, reading is part of it, but hands on experience is going to be the best and fastest way to learn. And there are actually different systems you can specialize in, and the one I have had an eye on for years is transmission specialties. Automakers are making more horsepower from smaller engines, and it seems like they add a gear to an automatic every 4 or 5 years, each gear in an automatic makes for a more difficult transmission to learn how to rebuild correctly. and more gears, means more expensive. The reality is the best transmission in the world will not hold up to the age old problem of high mileage, and driver error. But it is exacting work, and some mechanics find the precise order and concentration necessary to do a tranny correctly boring and tedious. The other thing is if you are really interested in working in a dirty greasy potentially hazardous environment. So I think hands on in a big dealership shop would be a lot more educational.
And if dirt and grease are not your thing, then consider the new car end of things, or putting together new custom cars. But one thing is universal, you have to get into the job part of it, in order to learn the highlights and the lowlights so to speak. Or be independently wealthy and pay a mechanic to work on your personal collection, while learning what to do.

Q: can anyone recommend a good automotive forum for acuras?
i have a used 97 acura LS that my mom bought for me after i messed up her nissan xterra and i want to be able to learn how to take care and perform maintenance on my car and also tune and upgrade it.

A: www.automotiveforums.com

just go to the Acura Forum. There are lots of knowledgeable people on this forum for most makes and models.

I’ve had good experiences with my car on this site.

Q: Is there like a directory or a forum that list all automotive related forums?
Im looking for information on a website that catogorizes forums.Instead of typing in a car and then adding “forum” afterwards, Im wondering if theres a website that has a listing of all of them or at least a goood amount.
For example…this site will have a section for Mazda, and then have the different forum websites that are for mazda cars

A: Try

forum-directories.com
vbulletindirectory.com
ipbdirectory.com
phpbbdirectory.com

Hope those help you out.

Q: How hard is it to replace automotive carpet? How much is it?
I know that the seats have to come out, and possibly the seat belts, too. Then the carpet goes in.

Sounds like a pretty big job. How hard is it? How much does it cost to hire somebody to do it?

Also – If nobody knows the answer – is there a good automotive forum where I can ask this question?

Thanks!

A: all that and more comes out. A lot of the trim by the doors and if its a car with the shifter on the floor then some work there also. Its really not that big of a job and you will feel good about yourself when its done. Make sure its done in a warm area because things lay out better then.A mechanic should be able to do it in 4 to 5 hours , so what ever the rate is times the hours is your answer. No forum that i know of.

Q: Does anyone know where I can find forum moderators?
I need to find moderators for a new automotive forum that will be launching soon. Is there a resource online to find forum moderators or does anyone know where I can find people with car knowledge?

A: Found this site:

http://www.bigwebmaster.com/3719.html

Other than something like this, I would maybe try to recruit a couple of mods from some existing forums, otherwise just add them as you go. You could also try searching on some of the freelance sites like odesk.com etc.

Maybe go on facebook to some car enthusiast groups and see if you can find some people.

Q: Automotive Repair Forum is Broken, Whats Wrong?
Hi all, I am an ASE Certified Master Tech and also an ASE L1 Advanced Tech. and I see a lot of people on here who honestly need help that are getting pathetic information from Backyard Benny and people who don’t even understand what they are talking about. I also see other people on here like me that are trying to help that do know what they are doing because the answers are correct but Backyard Benny or Side Job Bob keeps giving them a thumbs down. The misinformation on this forum is horrible and ultimately drives up the prices of vehicle repair for everyone in the long run because people spend money they don’t have for something that doesn’t fix the car then they take it back to the store and the store sends it back then the manufacturer raises the prices to compensate for Backyard Benny’s stupidity. I see people on here thinking all the time that they are getting ripped off when they are just mad over what they don’t understand. People on here actually think that a code reader will tell you what part to change when it is nothing like that. The machine that fixes cars does not exist folks unless you are talking about an experienced human mind. You people on here know who you are. You either are trying to help and know what you are doing or you are looking stupid trying to impress your mechanical intelligence that you don’t have on other people honestly looking for help, and you are just looking stupid to the people that do know what they are doing. Come on folks if you don’t know what you are talking about with your answers find another forum to run up your score and let the real auto people on here help the people that really need it.

A: I totally agree. It ticks me off when I give an answer then some nose picker gives a thumb down. I was an ASE mechanic, and now wire airplanes. If I am unsure of an answer I’ll look it up. Thanks for saying what a lot of us feel.

Q: What are good usernames for automotive forums?

Q: Which is the site where i can ask questions related to career in automotive engineering?

A: Society of Automotive Engineers

http://www.sae.org/servlets/index

Q: Are there any search engines for automotive forums?

A: Yes, try:

http://boardreader.com/

Just search with your usual search term and see the results. I don’t know how accurate, but it doesn’t cost anything to try.

Q: Automotive Forums Needed?
Hi, I am interested in the install some gages in my car. I want to search online first before I actually do it. Is there any forum I can use to find some suggestions?

A: Perhaps search for a forum for whatever vehicle you have? They would have the best information for you.

Q: i have seen a lot of stuff about back probing connectors on automotive forums, what is it and how is it done?

A: You take a thin needle and slide it along the wire into the connector, so it makes contact with the metal inside the connector without piercing the insulation. You can then hook up a voltmeter or oscilloscope to the pins to see what is going on in the wiring. There are automotive accupuncture needles (well, that’s what they’re called) that can hook up to high end meters, while if you have a cheaper volt meter you can use fabric needles and grab the needles with aligator clips.

Q: Can SOMEONE do SOMETHING about Dodge Man?
I am SO sick and tired of seeing his stupid Top Contributor and most Best Answers crap at the top of every automotive forum. The guy is an idiot, and his answers are worthless drivel. He cannot have that many best answers without cheating the system. Yahoo, please do something!

A: i understand your feelings..and often disagree with him..
.but the truth is he is much better than most contributors.
.at least he knows some things ..
i am amazed by some of the wrong answers i have seen today.. and the people giving them are enraged if you question their made up answer

Q: How much to charge for website ads?
I have been getting a lot of requests from companies to advertise on my site. my website (which is an automotive forum) receives 55,000 unique visitors and roughly 440,000+ page views a month, how much should I charge companies for a 150×100 banner ad on the homepage? what system should I use to calculate a rate? not sure what to charge, any insight would be helpful

A: I would suggest that you offer advertising at a fixed rate per month, then see what the response is to your advertising rates:

1) if no response the price is too high
2) if the response is overwhelming, then the price is too low

You can then adjust your advertising rates, with some confidence about pricing for the next month
