auto discussion

One of the senators asked them, why do we need three auto makers?

A: GM is in the most trouble and they should be put out of our misery. The remaining two can absorb their part of the market and, in the long run (and not that long) we’d all benefit.

Q: What are our options in preserving deer populations and decreasing auto incidents?
Are there any options for preserving deer populations that will allow us to decrease auto accidents? While I absolutely fear hitting another deer and I can’t stand it when they run out on me while I’m driving, I also think they are some of the most precious and beautiful beings. There’s got to be a better way for both humans and deer to exist together.

I live in a rapidly expanding piece of suburbia in New Jersey and the more development, the more “deer fear” when driving at night. I’m pretty ignorant when it comes to environmental issues, all I know is to recycle, so any information regarding the preservation of deer populations will be greatly appreciated. Even keywords I could look up to find current discussion of this issue are welcomed. Thanks in advance.

A: Part of the problem is that the deer population is in no way endangered. There is in fact an overabundance of them. Before humans eradicated their natural predators the population density of deer was lower.

According to an article I read in the Audubon magazine the population of deer is also high because the hunting lobby has campaigned to keep it that way so deer will be easy to find during hunting season. Since there are few natural predators, this is done by setting limits and season lengths.

While it may be upsetting to think that the only way to keep the population of deer at a healthy level (where they are not overgrazing the land and getting in the way of cars) is to kill some of them, the sad result of this overpopulation may be the increase of chronic wasting disease (similar to mad cow disease) among deer.

You might want to contact your state’s fish and game department and find out what their policies on deer population levels are. Organizations such as SPCA and PETA may also have some thoughts on the issue.

Oh one more thing. I have seen devices that attach to the fenders of your car. They are ultrasonic whistles that operate when your car goes over a certain speed. Supposedly the deer can hear them and may flee when they do. I don’t know how well they work by I have friends who use them.

Q: What is the first grand theft auto?
Me and my dad are having a discussion and he says the first grand theft auto is grand theft auto 3. I think it is grand theft auto vise city. Can some name off all the grand theft autos in order please and thank you so much lol. Is he wrong or am I?

A: the first gta is called… grand theft auto… second is gta 2… third is gta london something…. fourth is gta 3… then vice city… I think san andreas next and I dunno after that

Q: Are the auto companies problems caused by unions? What about spiraling healthcare costs?
Most are arguing that the unions are destroying the profits of the car companies and causing them to near bankruptcy. There is little to no discussion of health care costs associated with workers that are into the thousands of dollars per car. How much does this have to do with problems of the car companies?

Please answer intelligently, not with glib “political” answers.
“reason” and “frank” good well-thought out answers, thanks for contributing!

A: I think its not completely the Unions fault but I think that without the Unions in the way, cars would be priced a lot more competitively than their Japanese counterparts.

Also, I disagree with those who say that Unions have become weaker. In my opinion, they become stronger every year and with every member they sign up, not to mention the 100’s of political lobbyists they have on their payrolls.

Unions were initially created to serve the worker, with little to no benefit to the actual union administrators. Now the tables have turned, and in order to keep their cozy administrative jobs, union heads figure out how to bilk companies for more benefits year after year until we reach the mess we have today (i.e. paying workers to not work)

Q: Should a 7 year old be allowed to play games like Grand Theft Auto or Modern Warfare?
I don’t think so and don’t allow my son to play them, but we have a little discussion going on. I’ve been told I’m being too strict. What do you think? Please give reasons along with your answer. Thanks!

A: when i was seven i was stilling eating my boogers and playing pokemon…he absolutely should not be allowed to play this stuff…and im an 18 year old so he can’t say that im some strict parent who doesnt understand…have him read a book or something productive.

not to mention that especially with grand theft auto he will most likely not understand ANY of it…its like watching r-rated movies at that age. you laugh but in reality you didn’t really understand what was so funny at all.

for reasons, as i said he won’t understand a lot of it, it is incredibly inappropriate (especially GTA), and they are rated mature (17+ years old only) for a reason. think of it like having your son watch some movie like pulp fiction but in video game form. I won’t pretend that i didn’t play any of this stuff till i was seventeen, but it wasn’t until i was about fourteen that i did. basically he just isnt old enough at all

Q: Can anyone suggest a good social networking software which provides chat, discussion forum and user grading?
This tool should be free download and customization. The main feature I am looking at is auto-grading, rating and promotion of users to a series of customizable levels depending upon the participation in asking questions and replying to them just like yahoo answers. I am not looking at a service on internet but downloadable software that can be used in corporate intranet. if you have any idea, please do let me know.
I plan to suggest use of such a tool to build learning communities in my company.

A: This is not a simple website, but a complex application.
You will not find a free script to do all of it: this means that you will have to adapt all of them and mix them together.
This will take you much longer than starting from scratch!
You can start with phpbb (a free bulletin board), then buy “Yahoo Answers clone” (60$). That one does not really work, but will give you start.
Nevertheless, you better make sure you are VERY proficient with HTML, javascript, CSS, php, mysql and AJAX, otherwise, you won’t even start…
You could also place a request with freelancers, at rentacoder.com, web2coders.com, getafreelancer.com, but don’t expect any (serious) quote below 2000$…
Good luck!

Q: Are auto emissions really directly related to fuel effeciency?
Isn’t it possible to reduce automobile pollution (i.e., “emissions”) without increasing fuel efficiency? And if so, shouldn’t discussions (and political agendas) focused around fuel economy be considered misleading?

Put another way, are we confusing discussions over oil independence (an important discussion on its own) with discussions over global warming?

A: No, it’s not possible. Not when you include CO2.

When you look at gasoline strictly as a hydrocarbon (ie, without the trace atoms/molecules that make-up “traditional” pollution) then you have a given amount of energy that can be derived from that fuel. The most efficient combustion of a hydrocarbon yields CO2 and H2O. Period. It comes down to stoichiometry. That is exactly what all the sensors for temperature, pressure, O2, etc are trying to accomplish in a modern fuel injection system.

Anything less efficient results in other byproducts like carbon soot, carbon monoxide, and unburnt fuel – that is, an INCREASE in (traditional) pollutants. It is no coincidence that most ULEV and SULEV badges (Ultra Low Emission Vehicle and Super ULEV) are found on high-efficiency vehicles like the Prius or Civic Hybrid.

Do you think that it would be right if a poorly-maintained, poor running 1970 Cadillac DeVille puts out LESS CO2 per gallon of gas than a 2007 Prius?

So, you tell me. Do you think that CO2 should be lumped in with all the other traditional pollutants?

Q: Do you think a 7 year old should play Grand Theft Auto?
I don’t, but we have a little discussion going on about it. Please give reasons to go with your answers. Thanks!
Don’t worry, I don’t let him play it. It’s the kids on our block who are allowed to play it! I’m just asking this, so I can show my son that I’m not the only parent who thinks that game is not for young kids!!

A: It probably won’t be a good idea, you don’t want to influence them because then when they are like 14, there is not going to be anything thrilling to see or do, so I would stick to the age limits on the box maybe -2 years but 7 years old for GTA is quite extreme.. also because it talks about drugs and lots of blood and violence…

Q: What would the price be for an automobile from an American company if they were not burdened by the Unions?
For instance, the auto workers employed by U.S. auto companies get paid, what some seem, is a dissproportionate amount in wages and retirement based upon the value of the job they are performing. I would like to see answers that lead to a discussion as to how this might benefit U.S. Auto companies in competing against foreign designed/manufactured automobiles.

A: This is a GREAT QUESTION!!!

One of the best questions we have ever seen! And the answer is . . . .

[Before we give the answer, can we give a hint: do you remember what determines price? Supply and . . . demand!
Yes, price is determined only (solely and exclusively) by supply and demand.

That means that the cost to a particular manufacturer of producing the product -- labor, materials, etc. -- has ABSOLUTELY NO IMPACT ON PRICE!!! (sorry for shouting)

So -- the cost of labor (which is affected by unions) does not affect the price charged for a product, in the US or anywhere.

However, the _cost_ does affect something. Just not price. The cost affects . . . PROFIT!!

So, the answer to the question is, "The price of an automobile from an American company if they were not burdened by the Unions is exactly the same as the price if they are burdened by the Unions." (This is the Asker's language, not ours.)

However, if the costs for American manufacturers are higher than the costs for non-American manufacturers, then . . . .

Hope this helps.

Q: Is there a statute of limitations on grand theft in California?
I'm a teacher and my students and I were discussing the differences between national and state law, in particular statutes of limitation. This of course led to a discussion about the popular video game Grand Theft Auto. They wanted to know if the statute of limitations applies to grand theft. I had no idea! Can anyone help? Thanks in advance! :)

A: I don't want to go through all that is wrong with the answers above, so let me simply tell you that in general charges involving felonies with a maximum punishment of less than eight years must be filed within three years of the commission of the offense. (Pen C sec. 801.) However, for most offenses involving theft or fraud (including all types of grand theft), the charge must be filed within FOUR years of the discovery or completion of the offense, whichever is later. (Pen C sec. 801.5, 803, subd. (c)(1).)

If you are interested, if the maximum sentence is eight years or more the statute of limitations period is six years (Pen. C sec. 800), and there is no limitations period for ANY offense punishable by death or life imprisonment, or for the embezzlement of public money (Pen C sec. 799). There are some VERY complicated rules in California regarding the limitations period for sex offenses.

Q: Manual and Auto Car Drift?
Ok. I had this huge discussion on how manual transmission has more control than auto when drifting to my boyfriend, which he disagree and says that the bother have the same control. Can you please explain in detail about the pro and cons of manual and auto car when drifting? Thank you.
i mean both*

A: advantage manual- you have better gear control, that is if you know how to drive one VERYwell. dis advatage manual- mis shifting is common.also you can feather the clutch-i.e. ride it
advantage auto- you don't have to worry about gear selection. dis advantage-no where near as much gear control. note there is no feathering of the power band

Q: Lunch table discussion about crime in Delhi?
What triggered this discussion was the story in the newspaper about this 25 year old model raped in an autorickshaw by the driver and his friends.
How can anyone be safe in Delhi.
So we made this list.
1. When travelling in an auto / taxi be on the phone and talk to some known aqquaintance.
2. If you feel suspicious about the driver for any reason sms them any details you can about the auto and the route you are in.
3. Communicate verbally the route you are in on phone to the person you are on phone with.
The above advice works for both guys and girls because everyone is vulnerable. The nature of the crime may be different though.
4. Specific advice to girls:
Be courteous but professional with the driver. Please do not flirt or give the impression of flirting when you bargain on the fare in advance. Yes its second instinct in girls to use the charms and pout their way ahead in life but dont do it with a auto / cab driver.
thought it was important stuff to share.
Got any more ideas?

A: Good..Its nice to see ur ideas..it is very useful.

Add this also:

Always keep any spray that makes the attacker unconsious

Q: Has anyone had luck painting ceramic wall tiles?
I have a really awful looking tile job in my bathroom. I am selling the house and don't have money to have it replaced. They even tiled the ceiling.

I am a proffessional auto painter for over 20 years and know how to paint. I have sanders, paint guns and protective equipment.

I've seen allot of discussion about this, many saying no you can't paint it, many saying yes you can. What I'd like to know is there anyone who has done it, how you did it, and what was the result.

I've heard there are professionals that do this work, what type of paint do they use, what is their method of preparation?

A: You can have a professional come in and spray your tub, tiles, etc. I don't know what kind of paint they use, but you can look them up under "reglazers". It's usually a few hundred dollars depending on the size of the job.

I was in the same situation as you. I had horrendous brown tile in my half bath and was preparing to sell the home. I decided to take the job on myself, figuring the worst case scenario being re-tiling. So I went out and bought some high gloss epoxy paint in a bright white color and a high quality smooth roller and went to work. I cleaned the tiles (with TSP) and primed them. I applied the paint and allowed it to thoroughly dry before doing any touch ups. It dried beautifully and smooth to the touch. Gave the bathroom an instant face lift.

Well Being me of course i voted for San Andreas but i did think it would be cool to play in Detroit too but i have 3 questions…

1.) Is there Any Info About the Next Grand Theft Auto Game?(not including Episodes From Liberty City) (or if there even is one coming out any talk at all on forums and sites like that and if so please put the website with the discussion in your answer)

2.) If There Is a New GTA game coming out – how do you think they should improve it?(In My Opinion i think they should do 4 things ive thought up so far /// 1- let you ride in a taxi cab with other people/// 2 – let you climb down manholes into the sewer(dont know why just think it would be cool and effective for getting away from cops) /// 3 – let you do drugs or weed in your apartment or while your walking or anywhere /// 4 – they should really fix the grass in the game , i mean do you ever notice the tall grass is the same in GTA san andreas? – when you run it over or park on it , it goes up right through the car , they should make it where it flattens down.

3.) Where Do You Think The Next Game Should Take Place? (You Already know i want San Andreas or Detroit but it would be really cool if they made the game about the capital region of NY State (which if you didnt know is Albany,Schenectady,Rotterdam,Troy)

So this Questions pretty loooong but if you read this far give me your answers on all 3 – thanx.

(Also Any Other Info(As in shit you didnt make up) On the Next GTA Game Would Be Great)
dan you got a point there – i mean modding your car in the chop shops and going all over the whole state in one game was f.cking amazing — when i first played i thought all i was gonna do through out the whole game was gang banging in Los Santos – but that game gives you a mission to go into Area 51( aka in the game as Area 69 {lol 69})

and now that i think about it – what they should do is bring back the ballas and grove street families but in gta iv form(like graphics and A.I. intelligence that gta iv peds have) – and San Andreas with next gen graphics would look sick.
hey to the guy with the name Grand Theft Auto — you said GTA NYC? — Liberty City is NYC – not trying to be mean but its kinda sad if you didnt know that by now
yeah id think we all like to find our house and what not in a gta game then just go in and see whos living there and blow there head off wiht a shotty and say fuck you to the cops kuz this is my house b1tch!! lol

A: I was hoping GTA IV would be in Houston..

So my opinion stays the same for GTA V, I want it in Houston… It’d be cool to see how they made it… You’d have to go back to San Andreas style with the gangs and what not though…. Can’t do Houston without that…

I’d love to stroll up into the Harris County Criminal Court in downtown Houston with an M16 and rocket launcher… :) ))

Q: A very messed up situation liability factor auto wreck.?
I have found myself in a weird situation i got into a auto collision.
But the other drivers company is saying because a witness said i went into a red light i am one hundred percent at fault. my company thinks different due to the fact that the same witness told my company i went into yellow and its all on tapes.I don’t think that my people have told them about the story change..
but. still i went into the light green the light changes blazing fast once yellow no pause it goes to red fast!
so the light changed while i was in. should have she waited other then clipping my rear wheel and bumper?
When my light changes to red she gets the green arrow before that its a normal unprotected green. my car was 75% past her or else she would have hit me elsewhere.
Please help i’m taking driver to small claims
but her insurance said there discussion was made based on the wittiness statement. but in fact it changed…. help please
the they said even if there was no witness i would lose he said.

A: this is going to go into arbitration i’m sure. they are probably going to say that it’s 75% your fault, and 25% her fault. yes she should have waited and avoided an accident, but you broke the law by running a yellow. which by the way it IS illegal to run a yellow. if the red light comes on before you’re more than half way thru the intersection, it’s your fault. so your insurance company will be paying for 75% of the total damages…and hers will be paying 25% of the damages. you just need to make sure you let everyone know that her story changed!
